Kym finished the season with a full house run and a weekly award: Spirit Of The Fringe.
"It is difficult not to love Kym’s extravaganza, and Kym himself. The extravaganza is joyful, it is uplifting, it is enlightening and Kym, himself, is utterly resplendent. This show is powerful and has the capacity to change people’s lives and their perceptions. This show is not just entertainment (although it certainly is that), it is of social and civic service, providing representation to people with lived experience and elevating the voices of people with a disability – and we are all so much better for hearing Kym’s voice."

"Phi’s voice soars over her band whether with angst, grit or glee, though each of them bring something special of their own. Patrick Maher’s guitar energises the more upbeat and quirky tunes, but it’s the soft melodies of The Bed Song that hit a nerve. The vocal interludes between each song are taken to another dimension by Dr Jesse Budel’s magical (and largely improvised!) keyboard work, telling almost as much of the story as Phi does as speaker. Drummer Brodie Hewetson deftly drives the group through what feels like sudden and crisp timing changes – their synergy feels almost telepathic."

Guitar, on-stage cameo as the paso doble guitarist
"Ten-piece band is largely tidy, despite some violin vagaries. Hooray for Corey McNulty on drums – his Latin beats are tasty. Likewise, the unflappable Patrick Maher’s on-stage guitar sequence in the Paso Doble. Budel’s tempi are excellent."
It's pretty rare that a pit orchestra even gets a mention in a musical theatre review, even more so as a guitarist! Thank you, Pat.
